  • Concrete technology

Comprehensive knowledge and experience in all aspects of concrete technology, natural constuction materials, coatings, waterproofing, protection and repair.

  • Durability

State-of-art durability modelling and analysis of reinforced concrete. Performance-based specifications and technical support. Projects: Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Crossing, Qatar-Bahrain Causeway, Subaiyah causeway, STEP deep shaft (Abu Dhabi), Thames Tideway, Magnox North, Environment Agency.

  • Early Thermal

Comprehensive design of thermal control plans using current status guidance in EC2 and C660.  Use of finite difference and element analysis.  Advice on mix design and mitigation measures. CIRIA C660 Steering Group Member (ongoing correspondence). Projects: Galveston Bridge, USA; Full FE analysis and mitigation – Al Garhoud Bridge, Dubai; Linear Accelerators (Musgrove, Taunton and Bath Hospitals)

  • Nuclear

Durability modelling (engineering substantiation) for Hunterston A ILW store; with extensive materials and remediation consulting. Dounreay Shaft Isolation Project, design of high performance underwater infill grout for adit seal. Expert elicitations for LLWR, Magnox and NDA. Dounreay D3100 LLW store construction.

  • Marine/Ports

Materials advice, mix design, specification, quality procedures and audit. On site technical support. Lead author of CIRIA C674 “Use of concrete in maritime engineering”. Projects: Red Sea Gateway (Tusdeer), Jeddah; Tristan de Cuhna – Dolos armour production and QA; Rosyth Royal Dockyard, ongoing materials technical advice; Felixstowe Ports refurbishment, Portsmouth UHAF.

  • Environment

Thames Barrier leak sealing project.  Ongoing project to develop leak sealing solutions. Remote monitoring on the causes of leakage. Design of repair trials. Ongoing work.

  • Expert Witness

Numerous analytical investigations; precast failures, watercourse contamination, pipe failures, diaphragm wall failures, floors, coatings for concrete. Court appearances and expert witness reporting.
